Hypnotherapy for Phobias and Fears: Find Calm and Confidence

May 22, 20251 min read

Hypnotherapy is used to help overcome phobias and fears safely, quickly and effectively. I use a combination of techniques that could help you be rid of your phobia in as few as two to four sessions.

So what is a phobia?

Fear is a natural response to threat or danger. Most people will admit to having an irrational fear of something, for example being afraid of bees, wasps or spiders is quite common. However, this type of fear is manageable, short-lived and doesn’t impact on the person’s ability to function normally or on the choices they make. Someone suffering with a phobia will experience extreme anxiety, out of proportion to the actual danger. They’ll also go to extreme lengths to avoid situations or places that expose them to their phobia. Phobias can severely limit a person’s ability to live life to the full. Learn more about the differences between phobias and fears.

What is the difference between simple and complex phobias?

Phobias are considered to be of a simple or complex nature. Those regarded as simple tend be specific and generally relate to fear of one thing. These can include, for example, fear of:

  • dogs or spiders

  • heights or water

  • visiting the dentist or flying

  • blood or having injections

  • public speaking

More complex cases tend to be less specific and can include:

  • agoraphobia – fear of open spaces or not being able to escape from a place or situation

  • social phobia – fear of social situations or speaking in front of people

How many hypnotherapy sessions will I need?

Simple phobias can often be treated with hypnotherapy in just two to four sessions. More complex cases will be treated more effectively with general hypnotherapy sessions. We’ll discuss the most appropriate course of treatment for you during your first appointment.
